are a type of auxiliary verb in English that express the speaker's attitude
toward the action or event described in a sentence. The modal

Note that "shall" is used less frequently in modern English and is often replaced by "will" in everyday speech. Also, some grammars include "ought to" and "need to" as modal verbs, while others consider them as semi-modal verbs.
